About
It’s weird that our mom doesn’t get gifts on our birthday. She did everything.
This blog is dedicated to my mom, the best mom a girl could ever ask for. And what could be the best day to start this blog than my birthday, as I am here because of her.
Though she has experienced many tragic losses and yet her optimism remains intact – I wonder if I’ll ever have her resilience. Being a working woman, she knows her way around the kitchen, too, and has soothed practically every ailment in my life with something homemade.
I learned to cook while perched on a chair next to my mother. One of my favourite things about going home is cooking in the kitchen with my Mom. Nothing could be better than standing side by side in the kitchen and enjoying the rhythm of cutting, slicing and cooking together. My very important jobs included mixing the batter and toasting the nuts. I still do those things.
I really adore my mom. She loves me even though I’ve been unbearable at times, and supported me when I chose to move away.
Although we no longer live in the same state, I know she is always, just a phone call away. A phone call to offer support, sound advice, or just a friend to talk about any recipes. Looking back now I appreciate how encouraging and incredibly patient my mother was with my endless phone calls and questions. Not only as a child, but even today I keep asking her this question; “What’s to eat, MOM?”.
“What’s2eat- MOM?” is a recipe journal, bringing together food from my coastal India roots with inspiration from my mom and the trials of daily life.
This blog is to showcase some of the classic Mom-inspired recipes that are easy to cook & good to eat. For the existence of this blog she has been one of the biggest enthusiast of my endeavour. Growing up some of my favourite memories with my mom (other than our fabulous shopping trips), were spending time in the kitchen together cooking our favourite foods and upholding family traditions. She instilled in me basic cooking and creativity skills for kitchen success. Really, my mom has left some serious shoes to fill. If I come close I’ll consider that a success.
On this blog, I would include a few recipes that are inspired by mom. Also, several of the recipes on this blog are my family’s traditional recipes with a few simple ingredients.
Much of the content on this blog is me using cooking as a vehicle to process feelings and events.
All recipes published on ‘What’s2eat-MOM’ are made and photographed with minimal styling and editing. Everything is devoured, little to nothing is wasted.
The recipes would be uploaded on the Youtube channel - “Whats2eatmom”. This channel is a quick step-by-step guide of recipes. Watch our videos to discover some of the classic mom-inspired recipes that are easy to cook and good to eat.
